So, what was his life like before he became a household name? He was born on August 3, 1926, in Queens to a grocer father and a seamstress mother. They had no money but he kept singing- literally. Apparently, his passion for the arts began when he was knee-high to a grasshopper. Therefore, he would end up at a high school for Industrial Arts. Tony Bennett looked up to such performers as Al Jolson and Bing Crosby. As time would go by, Frank Sinatra became someone who influenced him along with Billie Holiday and Judy Garland.

Drafted, Performing, & MTV

Despite Tony Bennett being drafted for World War II, he still was able to sing in the band. Eventually, his career launched but it was a series of unfortunate events over the next few decades that would force his son to take over. This was quite possibly the best move ever. Danny Bennett ensured that his father was marketed to the MTV audience and landed him gigs with the Red Hot Chili Peppers. More so, he landed his MTV Unplugged gig which allowed a new generation to see what a vocal master he truly was.

It was his Duets albums that kept connecting him to the next generation of music fans. He performed and toured with Lady Gaga and they created an amazing friendship. Finally, Tony Bennett has earned the title of the oldest singer to land a number-one album. He also has 20 Grammy Awards but the biggest legacy that he leaves behind is his family. Sending condolences to his wife, children, grandchildren, and all who he touched in his long career.
Rest in musical paradise, Tony.
